About the Platinum Eagle
The American Platinum Eagle, first issued in 1997, is the United States' official platinum coin — .9995 fine platinum, and the only U.S. coin regularly issued in that metal.
Liberty, and a changing reverse
The obverse features John Mercanti's Statue of Liberty. Proof Platinum Eagles are known for an evolving reverse — the Mint has issued multi-year thematic series that make each date distinct — struck at West Point and issued with certificate.
